Number of couples getting a divorce tends to rise in the New Year

People in Illinois who are in the midst of a troubled marriage and are considering divorce might feel isolated and not realize that there are many people who are experiencing the same issues. During January, in particular, there tends to be a rise in the number of people who decide to divorce. The filings increase by approximately one-third at the start of the year.

The holidays are viewed as a precursor to the divorce as couples are home together and this can lead to more people in dispute with the need to put on a brave face for family members. This stokes tensions that eventually come to a boil. More people tend to contact attorneys and discuss a divorce at around this time.
