Many Lake County, Illinois, residents know that the end of a marriage brings with it many challenges. Child custody, property division and child support are only some of the complicated matters that couples have to deal with and resolve. Things can become even more complicated when the couple is in the public eye all of the time.
Take, for instance, the case of billionaire Ken Griffin. The hedge fund operator had filed for divorce from his wife this past July. The couple has now started to do battle over child custody. While Griffin is seeking joint custody of the three children, his ex-wife is seeking sole custody with visitation rights for her ex-husband. After all of the conflicts in this child custody case, the couple is seeking the help of a lawyer for their children.
This guardian ad litem will investigate the facts, interview everyone involved as well as the children, and submit a report to the court. The guardian ad litem will not be a representative. Rather, that person can be cross-examined in the celebrity couple divorce case.
Divorce is normally a very difficult experience, particularly when children are involved. Decisions need to be made regarding child custody. In some cases, one parent will retain sole physical custody of the child, while the other parent has the right to visitation time with the child. Similarly, legal custody — which refers to the ability to make key decisions on the child’s behalf — may be either held jointly by both parents or solely by one parent. In either case, the underlying basis of all these decisions must be the child’s best interests.
