Melanie Griffith files for divorce from Antonio Banderas
Illinoisans, in general, and Lake County residents, specifically, are aware that not all Hollywood marriages are short-lived. There are times when a couple decides to end their marriage after living together for a long time. That was the case with a celebrity divorce.
Once the hottest couple in Hollywood, Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas have filed for divorce. The actors are untying the knot after 18 years. Banderas supported his wife during her treatment for addiction. As a couple, they also supported charitable causes. Griffith filed for the divorce, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the marriage ending. The actors got married in 1996 and have a 17-year-old daughter together. Griffith has also asked for alimony but has agreed to pay the attorney fees, according to her divorce filing. The closeness of the couple was evident by the fact that Griffith has Banderas’s name tattooed on her shoulder. The divorce petition was signed on May 30 but the date of separation was not specified in the filing.
The couple worked together on the 1995 film “Two Much.” Banderas, 53, also directed Griffith in the film “Crazy in Alabama.” The celebrity couple even organized a fund-raising event for Barack Obama at their home in Los Angeles. This is Griffith’s fourth marriage. Previously, she was married to Don Johnson, whom she divorced once and later remarried.
Griffith received an Oscar nomination for her 1998 film, “Working Girl.” Lately, she has been appearing on television and she made guest appearances on “Hawaii Five-0” and several other television shows. She has also received kudos for her role in the Broadway revival of “Chicago.” The end of a marriage can be stressful for all people, including celebrities. It is important for those involved to do their best to end up in an amicable situation, if at all possible.
