Dina and Clint Eastwood end 18-year marriage on amicable terms
Ending a marriage is often difficult. Any Illinois resident who has been through the process knows that emotions can be overwhelming during a divorce. For those in the public eye, divorce can be especially challenging because of often-intense media scrutiny.
One high-profile couple who finalized their divorce recently knows just how obsessed the Hollywood media can be. Actor Clint Eastwood and Dina Eastwood, a former television news broadcaster, formally ended their marriage after 18 years in a courtroom in Monterey County, California. Dina Eastwood had filed for divorce in October, 2013, citing irreconcilable differences. The news media learned then that the couple had already been living apart for some time. Clint Eastwood has remained silent about the couple’s split and divorce, but his ex-wife discussed their split in a television interview in 2013; she described her husband then as “probably the sweetest guy I’ve ever met.”
The couple’s only daughter is 18 years old, so child custody is not an issue in their case. With considerable wealth from Clint Eastwood’s long career in movies, however, property division may be complicated, although there are some reports that the couple has already reached a settlement. The actor has long maintained a low profile with the news media.
The last few years have seen a several high-asset divorce cases with divorce settlements running not only into the millions of dollars, but also the billions. The recent divorce of oil billionaire Harold Hamm is a good case in point; ex-wife Sue Hamm has appealed a judge’s decision awarding her one billion dollars, arguing that her former husband is worth many times that amount. When such assets are at stake, it is best to consult a legal professional who can guide a couple through property division. With the right guidance, the divorce can be not only smooth, but also amicable.
