Paying child support in the digital age

In today's digital age, gone are the days when a noncustodial parent must mail a check for child support. While that is still an option, these days noncustodial parents in Illinois can pay their child support obligations over the phone, with a credit card online or have payments automatically deducted from their bank account.

If a parent chooses to pay child support over the phone, they must first go through a registration process. After that, payments can be made using a credit card. There is a processing fee that will apply if child support is paid this way. It might take as many as seven business days for the payment to appear on the applicable child support account.

If a parent chooses to pay child support with a credit card, he or she can do so online. This method of paying child support is both simple and secure. The noncustodial parent will first have to register before he or she can pay child support online with a credit card. As with pay by phone, it might take as many as seven business days for the payment to appear on the applicable child support account.

Finally, it is possible for a noncustodial parent to have his or her child support payments automatically deducted from his or her bank account. Deductions can be made weekly, bi-weekly or monthly. As with pay by phone and pay with a credit card, the noncustodial parent first has to register before automatic deductions can begin. Child support payments made this way can take as many as five business days for the payment to appear on the applicable child support account. This means of paying child support is simple and secure, and as long as the funds in the bank account are there, takes the guesswork out of trying to remember to pay child support on time.

As this shows, noncustodial parents these days have lots of options for paying child support. Some may prefer the ease of paying over the phone or online, or simply having payments automatically deducted from their bank account. No matter how they choose to pay, however, what is important is that the child is being raised in a safe, comfortable and nurturing environment.
