More siblings, less divorce?

Does your number of brothers and sisters make a difference in the likelihood of your marriage ending in a divorce here in Illinois? According to a recent study, the more brothers or sisters you have, the lower your risk for a divorce. The study from Ohio State University found that each sibling reduces your risk of divorce by 2 percent.

The study was based on data compiled over 40 years from 1972 to 2012 involving 57,061 adults. The co-author noted that there are other factors that can have a greater influence on whether or not you will divorce, but that the presence of siblings is a factor. One sociologist commented that he felt the suggestion was "interesting" but the evidence what not "overpowering."

One author noted that school provides much of the education only children need to develop to handle conflict resolution and learn how to work with other people. There would need to be additional research that confirmed the findings before they could be deemed definitive.

Nevertheless, even those from a large family may find that they are in a marriage where their partner has become impossible to live with and no matter their level of coping skills; it may be time to end the marriage.

A good divorce attorney can explain your options and help you begin the process of starting anew.
